Food and Wonderful Food...

This post is dedicated to the food I enjoyed (or don’t enjoy!) the most in Macau!

On the first day we touched down and since our “Executive Room” is not ready, we headed to Hotel Lisboa for the famous Dim Sum at Portas Do Sol on the 1st floor of the hotel, which coincidently located just a short walk from Emperor Hotel. Portas Do Sol s often raved about as having the best dim sum in Macau. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chanceto savour that as the restaurant is fully booked that day…and the waitress do NOT even encourage you to wait! Well, from the crowd and reservation list, this illustrates it must be good.

Feeling hungry, we chanced upon this small eating outlet while walking along the streets. So, we just ordered the barbeque pork or “Siew Yook”, a bowl of “Lai thong” and a plate of Fried Rice. But before that, not without some embarassment  - when the waitress showed us the menu in Chinese, we have to quietly say we are ILLITERATE in Chinese.  Anyway, with her recommendation, we decided on those items.  The soup or “Lai thong” is basically a vegetable soup for cooling down. Doesn’t look appetizing, but it was tasted nice.

I love the fried rice the best.  The rice texture seems to be so good and the grains were well-separated and not at all dry.  In fact, I continue scooping spoonful until none is left!

My meal was pleasant and temporary fulfill my hunger, but I am still was not overwhelmed...not until I have some true Macanese cuisine!

So, what's for Dinner?  Again wandering aimlessly on the streets of Macau downtown, we finally decide to have Chinese food again.

Simple 3-dish dinner, i.e. Sauteed Broccoli, Sweet Sour Special Pork and Claypot Giner Chicken, were our choice that night.  Each servings can eat four persons, but the two of us manage to finish them.  Blame it on the Cold Winter!!!

The bill does not come cheap either, HK133 which is about about RM55.  But, I am truly satisfied coz I have never tasted such good and fresh broccoli.

The next day, i.e. on Sunday we went to the Senado Square, where the famous St. Paul Ruins were. There were just too many stall selling jerky meats, reminding me that Chinese New year is just around the corner. Of course, Goh had a "gala" time with those meats - starting from normal flavour to spicy, honey roasted and even piglet jerky!  These jerkies are moist, but a bit on the sweet side as compared to the ones we have in KL.  Not cheap though, 1 pounds cost around HK58 (RM25).

After the long walk in the crowded area, I chanced upon a small shop promoting its abalone sharkfin soup at HK40 per bowl  Hm, that's RM20 per bowl, which is affordable by our standrd.  So,  in we went to savour the sharksfin soup, with generous pieces of abalone

And before I end, I just want to put on record that I have eaten the most number of  Portuguese Egg Tarts I ever had in a month in just a few hours in Senado Square!!  I bet you can never find this tasteful tarts in KL.  It cost about RM3 per piece, but worth it!!  Here's a close-up shot of how the wonderful tarts look like.  Well, the missing tarts are already in my stomach...So sorry.... In total, I ate 6 tarts!!

Short Vacation to Macau - Just Casinos

I took advantage of the Air Asia "no admin charges" promo and landed on Macau on 19 Dec 2009 with my husband.  It was quite an  experience to land on the airport runway built on reclaimed land.  I think this was the first time I landed with "water on both sides".  There was also fear of "crash landing" onto the sea!!

Anyway, Macau was not as great as I have read about, particularly so when the authorities have promoted the country on the occassion of celebrating 10th year anniversary of Macau upon handling over to China.

Nothing to see except for the Casinos on left, right and in front wherever I go.  Probably, it was also due to the selection of Emperor Hotel, which is right in the middle of the city, and short walk to Ferry Terminal, the famous Senado Square and Fisherman Wharf.

These pictures here from left to right are MGM, Grand Lisboa, Sands and Lisboa.
Coaches from Ferry Terminal and airport are also provided by these leading casinos.  Unfortunately, not being a seasoned gambler, we dare not hop into any of these coaches!!

Look out for more!!
